Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT lymphoma)
Gallbladder and extrahepatic biliary tract

Definition

In common with lymphoma elsewhere in the digestive system, primary lymphomas of the gallbladder and extrahepatic bile ducts are defined as extranodal lymphomas arising in and localized to this region

. Contiguous lymph-node involvement and distant spread may be seen, but the primary clinical presentation is in the gallbladder or, even more rarely, in the extrahepatic bile ducts. Lymphomas with this localization are extremely rare, with fewer than 40 reported cases

. The morphology and genetics of lymphoma of the gallbladder appear to be similar to those of gastric MALT lymphomas, including the presence of the fusion gene BIRC3-MALT1 in at least one reported case
