.
Follicular carcinoma accounts for 10-15% of thyroid malignancies, is more common in women and tends to occur in patients in the fifth decade. Iodine deficiency and radiation exposure are considered risk factors. Clinically, follicular carcinoma usually presents as a solitary encapsulated mass. Minimally invasive follicular carcinomas have a very low mortality of 3 to 5%. Widely invasive carcinomas may metastasize and have a long term mortality of approximately 50%

> Oncocytic follicular carcinoma
This variant is also derived from follicular cells and composed exclusively or predominantly (>75%) of oncocytic cells. Synonymous terms for this thyroid tumour are oxyphilic adenocarcinoma and Hurthle cell carcinoma . Oncocytic carcinomas manifest at an earlier age and behave more aggressively than follicular carcinomas of conventional type
