Metanephric stromal tumour (MST) of the kidney is a rare benign paediatric neoplasm identical to the stromal component of metanephric adenoma . It consists of a lobulated, fibrous, very often cystic mass (mean diameter 5 cm) centred in the renal medulla. MST typically surrounds and entraps renal tubules and blood vessels, resulting in concentric "onionskin" rings or collars around these structures

Affected children usually present with an abdominal mass; haematuria is not uncommon. The mean age at diagnosis is 24 months.
