WHO Classification of Tumours
Endometrial stromal sarcoma, NOS
Corpus uteri

Definition

Undifferentiated endometrial sarcoma is an aggressive high-grade mesenchymal tumour arising from the uterine corpus. It lacks specific differentiation and any resemblance to the endometrial stroma. The tumour appears as a polypoid, fleshy, grey to yellow mass in the endometrium. Areas of prominent haemorrhage and necrosis are frequent observations. Histologically, the tumour exhibits marked cellular atypia and high mitotic activity. In contrast to the infiltrative growth pattern of low grade endometrial sarcoma, undifferentiated endometrial sarcomas displace the myometrium.
Most patients die from tumour dissemination within three years after hysterectomy
