Definition

Nodular (solid) basal cell carcinoma is a frequent variant of basal cell carcinoma , often presenting as elevated skin nodules which may become ulcerated or cystic. In cases which present as endophytic nodules, the overlying skin surface shows indurated flat lesions. Histologically, the tumour is characterized by large lobules of neoplastic basaloid "germinative" cells with peripheral nuclear palisading. Nodular basal cell carcinomas develop most frequently on the head
