Definition

Acute myeloid leukaemia with minimal differentiation is an AML with no evidence of myeloid differentiation by morphology and light microscopy cytochemistry. The myeloid nature of the blasts is demonstrated by immunological markers and/or ultrastructural studies including ultrastructural cytochemistry. Immunophenotyping studies are essential in all cases to distinguish this disease from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
