Definition

Myelodysplastic syndrome with isolated del(5q) is a myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) characterized by anaemia with or without other cytopenias and/or thrombocytosis and in which the sole cytogenetic abnormality is del(5q). Myeloblasts comprise <5% of nucleated bone marrow (BM) cells and <1% of peripheral blood (PB) leukocytes and Auer rods are absent.
