Leiomyoma is a well-circumscribed benign smooth muscle neoplasm histologically characterized by the presence of spindle cells with cigar-shaped nuclei, interlacing fascicles, and a whorled pattern.

Intestinal leiomyoma
Intramural leiomyomas similar to those seen in the stomach are very rare (about 1 per 100 gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs)). Muscularis mucosae leiomyoma, like that found more commonly in the colon and rectum, has also been reported
